Find Relief from Light-Triggered Migraines with Avulux

If you suffer from migraines or light sensitivity, you know how debilitating everyday light exposure can be. At Innovation Eye Clinic located in Kitchener, we offer Avulux migraine glasses—a clinically proven solution designed to filter the harmful light wavelengths that trigger and worsen migraine attacks.

Unlike standard sunglasses or blue light glasses, Avulux lenses are specifically engineered to target the precise wavelengths of light that cause photophobia (light sensitivity) and migraine pain, while allowing soothing light to pass through.

What Are Avulux Migraine Glasses?

Avulux glasses feature a specialized lens tint that selectively filters up to 97% of the most harmful blue, amber, and red light wavelengths known to trigger migraines and light sensitivity. At the same time, they allow over 70% of soothing green light to pass through, which research shows can actually help reduce migraine pain.

This patented technology provides relief without the need for dark lenses that force you to live in darkness or avoid normal daily activities.

How Avulux Lenses Work

Research has identified that certain wavelengths of light—particularly in the blue, amber, and red spectrum—activate light-sensitive neurons in the eye and brain, triggering or intensifying migraine attacks. Avulux lenses precisely filter these problematic wavelengths while allowing beneficial green light through.

The result is a lens that:

  • Reduces light-triggered migraine frequency and intensity

  • Provides relief from photophobia during and between migraine attacks

  • Allows you to function normally in everyday lighting environments

  • Can be worn indoors and outdoors

  • Doesn't require you to sit in dark rooms

Who Can Benefit from Avulux Migraine Glasses?

Avulux glasses are ideal for anyone who experiences:

  • Light-sensitive migraines triggered by fluorescent lights, screens, or sunlight

  • Chronic migraines with frequent photophobia symptoms

  • Photophobia (light sensitivity) even without migraines

  • Post-concussion light sensitivity

  • Difficulty working under office lighting or using digital devices

  • Need to avoid outdoor activities due to light triggers

Clinically Proven Migraine Relief

Avulux is the only migraine lens backed by clinical research published in peer-reviewed medical journals. Studies show that Avulux wearers experience:

  • Significant reduction in migraine frequency

  • Decreased migraine intensity and duration

  • Improved ability to function during migraine attacks

  • Better quality of life and daily productivity

Many patients report being able to return to activities they had previously avoided, such as working on computers, shopping in bright stores, or spending time outdoors.

Avulux vs. Other Tinted Lenses

Avulux vs. FL-41 Tint

FL-41 is an older tint technology that blocks blue light but also significantly darkens your vision. Avulux provides superior protection by precisely targeting multiple harmful wavelengths while maintaining better visual clarity and color perception.

Avulux vs. Blue Light Glasses

Blue light glasses are designed for digital eye strain and sleep, not migraines. They only filter a narrow range of blue light and don't address the amber and red wavelengths that trigger migraines. Avulux provides comprehensive protection across all migraine-triggering wavelengths.

Avulux vs. Sunglasses

Regular sunglasses simply darken everything, which can actually worsen light sensitivity over time. Avulux selectively filters harmful light while allowing beneficial light through, so you can wear them indoors and outdoors without being in the dark.

FAQs

  • If the lens is too dark, your eyes adapt to the darkness and eventually allow in more light. Consistently wearing sunglasses can significantly prevent light across the visible spectrum from entering your eyes which can make you even more sensitive to light. This increase in light sensitivity could more easily trigger migraine symptoms and increase light-triggered pain.

Avulux is currently the only light sensitivity lens to ever be proven effective in clinical testing with the highest standards. Other lenses on the market including sunglasses and blue light filtering lenses did not have the same effectiveness for those who experience light sensitivity.

  • Avulux lenses effectively absorb blue light, but they are not simple blue light glasses.

Avulux absorbs multiple light wavelengths (colors), in high percentages without distorting your color perception.

Studies have shown that white, blue, amber, and red light contribute to migraine pain and migraine symptom intensity.

Simple blue blocking glasses do not absorb the specific wavelengths of light that have been shown to be harmful to those with migraine. here.

  • No. The Avulux lens is a new, unique, patented, multi-band optical filtration technology that targets harmful blue, red, and amber light while allowing soothing green light through.

FL-41 is an older single-band, blue light filtration technology developed in the 1980’s to help wearers that are sensitive to fluorescent lighting.

Avulux allows soothing green light through while filtering more blue light than FL-41 glasses. Avulux additionally precisely filters amber and red light.

Avulux can be worn for screens, indoor lighting (including LED and fluorescent lights, among others), and even outdoors.

  • You can wear Avulux continuously whether you're indoors, outdoors or even working out. Wearing Avulux will not dark adapt your eyes (you will not become more light sensitive by wearing Avulux).

It is recommended to wear your Avulux glasses during any triggering activities like extended screen time, when exposed to harsh artificial light, or even under sunlight. If not worn continuously, be sure to wear your Avulux glasses as soon as you feel any migraine or light sensitivity symptoms.

Notice: Avulux is not suitable for driving. It is a specialty lens with precision filtration properties.

  • No problem! If you don't wear prescription glasses or if you wear contact lenses, there are non-prescription Avulux lenses available.

  • Lenses can be made custom to your optical prescription. Please be aware that the lab would need your frames while they are making the lens (even if it’s non-prescription). This is to ensure the lenses are cut perfectly to the shape of your frames.

If you would like to use the frames from your current prescription glasses, please ensure you have a backup pair or glasses or contact lenses readily available for use during the wait period.
